What We Do
Golden Home Return (GHR) Canada, is a community social solidarity scheme, Owned, developed and managed by associations and groups from the English speaking regions of Cameroon based in Canada. The scheme is aimed at addressing funeral-related challenges within our community, to preserve cultural values; bring our community together not only for funerals but for community events and to promote capacity building and resiliency in our community. After the bereaved family issues notification of an eventuality and provides the necessary documentation, GHR will issue a check of $16,000 to the adherent’s next of kin towards funeral expenses of former.
With the policy of ‘membership to GHR Canada through associations’ in place, GHR serves to keep communities together in a fold with shared responsibilities to meet common goals, while enhancing the bond between these communities. Communities and their members are therefore able to enjoy the solidarity of one another in various occasions and in various formats in their cultural settings and dignity. The scheme also creates the opportunity for communities to learn about each other’s culture, thereby promoting, to a great extent, multiculturalism.
As an association owned by associations, GHR Canada stands for aspects that portray and enhance best practice. These include transparency, accountability, integrity, and service to community. This is achieved by making member associations of GHR Canada to own, develop, run and manage the scheme. As such, GHR Canada stands straight for community ownership and the general assembly is the supreme decision maker.
